Breaking the Divide Through Stories of Young Changemakers

Breaking the Divide Through Stories of Young Changemakers
On the occasion of International Youth Day 2020, The Tale of Humankind, in collaboration with Save the Children India, launched the storytelling campaign Celebrating the Changemakers: Breaking the Divide. The initiative was designed to challenge dominant narratives around privilege, access, and opportunity by placing diverse youth voices side by side and highlighting the shared spirit of changemaking across social and economic divides.
Over a period of 25 days, the campaign featured 50 young changemakers, presented in pairs. Each pair brought together one young person from a relatively privileged background and another from an underprivileged community, creating a powerful contrast that underscored how talent, empathy, and leadership exist everywhere, even when resources do not. Through personal stories, lived experiences, and grassroots action, the campaign amplified voices that are often unheard and rarely given public platforms.
The digital storytelling format encouraged audiences to reflect on systemic inequality while recognizing the resilience and innovation of young leaders working at the community level. Reaching over 4000 people online, the campaign not only raised awareness but also led to meaningful outcomes, including connections to mentorship networks and potential funding opportunities for several featured changemakers. Breaking the Divide reaffirmed the belief that inclusive storytelling can be a catalyst for equity, understanding, and collective action.
