Youth Voices Driving Conversations on Education and Equity
During the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, when physical classrooms and public forums were no longer accessible, The Tale of Humankind hosted a series of Twitter conversations to ensure that dialogue, learning, and collective reflection continued. Held between April and July 2020, these tweet chats created an open and inclusive digital space where young people, educators, and advocates from different backgrounds could exchange ideas and lived experiences on issues central to education, equity, and youth leadership.
Each conversation focused on a distinct yet interconnected theme. Key discussions explored the role of educators in times of crisis, featuring Adam Rogers, UN Education Secretary, who reflected on leadership, adaptability, and empathy in education. Other sessions addressed connecting classrooms globally, highlighting the possibilities of digital learning and cross cultural collaboration. Conversations also tackled sensitive but crucial topics such as breaking the taboo around menstruation in classrooms, and the impact of COVID 19 on SDG 5 gender equality, in collaboration with Feminism in India and Sayfty.
Collectively, these tweet chats engaged over 1200 online participants, amplifying youth voices and enabling educators to share first hand perspectives from diverse contexts. More than just discussions, the conversations fostered solidarity, awareness, and mutual learning, reinforcing the power of social media as a tool for meaningful dialogue, community building, and youth led advocacy during times of global uncertainty.
